What Are the Different Types of Folding?
Paper can be folded in countless ways. Understanding folding is essential, since miss measured folds are often the perpetrators of many reprints. Folding is not a precise art. Generally, you can expect a tolerance of 1⁄32“ inch per fold. This depends on the weight and caliper of the paper stock and the placement of the folds. This impacts the way the job will finish; proper planning and making sample mock ups in the design and production stage will help eliminate errors. These are some of the most common folding styles used in print production today. Use of standard names will help ensure good communication between designer and printer.

What are the different types of Binding?
Binding a book means attaching sheets together. There are a number of ways to attach sheets together. Some common options include gluing, stitching and sewing. Binding techniques can generally be grouped into these categories:
- Saddle Stitching – Most common type of binding, is stapling sheets together where they fold at the spine.
- Side Stitching – Stapling the signatures together on the side rather than the fold.
- Spiral Binding – To bind using a spiral of continuous wire or plastic looped through punched holes.
- Perfect Binding – The spine or the book is cut and roughened, adhesive is applied to the rough edges and a cover is glued firmly in place. Bleeds and crossovers are also handled differently on perfect bound books.

Tips to Make Your Design Files Print-Ready
If you are self-employed freelancer and work in graphic design industry, you are most likely frustrated at times when your local printer rejects your file and tells you that your file is not print ready.
Print Ready is a term which means the submitted print file meets the following criteria for print: Convert all RGB images to CMYK color. File is in proper format (psd, esp,ai, high resolution jpeg, pdf, tif) and check if final raster image has enough resolution of 300dpi.
Here is a list of ten things to consider ensuring that your production is done well for your clients.
1. Timing is critical.Know your production timing.
2. Embed your fonts for accurate reproduction. Your local printer might not have the fonts you are using.
3. Print size matters. Larger size prints will require high quality graphics which also means large file size to upload.
4. Proof your document thoroughly. Your local printer will not correct anything.
5. Check image proportions, dimensions and resolution.
6. Consistency is the key. Be consistent on page margin, layouts and files.
7. Convert graphics to CMYK.
8. Print out a sample. Don’t worry,it’s a sample. Your final image will not be the same. Don’t expect your local printer to reproduce what you have printed at home.
9. Bleeds/Crop-Are you using guidelines? Make sure you have bleed lines and trim/cut line properly setup.
10. Ensure to use proper software to format the file properly i.e dpi, bit size, color etc.

TURNAROUND – It doesn’t take long working with ColorFX for worries about turnaround time to take a back seat. We know that our customers often have tight schedules with their own clients. If we don’t deliver when we say we will, it reaches all the way to the end user who becomes inconvenienced, disappointed, and at times led to question their decision to work with the vendor. At ColorFX we are there for you with the understanding that on time is the only option. Take advantage of the turnaround time choices we make available so you can meet every deadline with confidence.
